During the school year, Friends of SoZo Kids recruits and trains volunteers to staff the SoZo Kids After-School program. The Program is run Mondays-Wednesdays at two different locations in the Ocala National Forest.
We need six volunteers each day at each location. Volunteers assist children with activities, games, provide homework support, oversee outdoor play and assist in serving a quick dinner meal before kids head home.
Volunteers are encouraged to TAKE A TEST DRIVE to discover the joy of helping kids succeed! Join a veteran volunteer for one afternoon at either location to experience for yourself how you can make a difference in the lives of these children. CLICK HERE to learn more about TAKING A TEST DRIVE
After your Test Drive, we encourage volunteers to consider serving once or twice a month which helps children and volunteers build a trusting relationship.
Many volunteers from The Villages carpool.
Forest Lakes Park Community Center – 3:30 – 6:00pm – 9528 190th Ave., Ocklawaha
Sandy Acres Community Center – 2:30 – 6:00 pm – The Old Fire Station #29, 24798 SE Hwy. 42, Umatilla
After-School Program Meals – We provide a simple kid-friendly meal as part of the After-School Program because most of these children will not get dinner when they get home. If you love to cook and can shop for and prepare a simple kid-friendly meal for 20-25 children we can use your help and we will reimburse you for your food expenses. CLICK HERE for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers must follow state guidelines for people working directly with children. This includes having a background check, getting fingerprinted, and completing an application. YOU CAN TAKE A TEST DRIVE WITHOUT HAVING TO COMPLETE THESE STEPS.
