SUMMER PROGRAM AT FOREST LAKES PARK - DAYTIMEFor six weeks on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in June and July Friends of SoZo Kids provides volunteers to staff this summer program hosted by the Help Agency of the Forest, our frontlines partner serving SoZo Kids.
Volunteers help lead fun and educational activities, such as science experiments, jewelry making, water balloon games, and mini-boxcar racing. Friends of SoZo Kids’ Robotics Program is an integral part of this program, designed to engage kids in critical learning skills while having fun. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up once a week, if possible, or perhaps just to lead a special activity. Villages Clubs such as Clown Alley also come to present special events or programs. Because these Kids have difficulty accessing the Federal summer food programs, volunteers serve children with breakfast, a snack midmorning, and lunch. These food items are donated by volunteers. If you, your Village, Club or Church is interested in purchasing food (we will reimburse you) and/or preparing hot meals to serve the children, click on the link below for more information. We encourage volunteers to take a “TEST DRIVE” and volunteer once or twice before making a commitment. Click below for more information. Many volunteers carpool from The Villages or other convenient locations. Volunteers on a regular schedule must follow state guidelines for people working directly with children. This includes having a background check, getting fingerprinted, and completing an application. |
