Back-to-School Bash

We will need between 30-40 volunteers to help at the annual SoZo Kids Back-to-School Bash from 9-12 on Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church in Silver Springs. It is HOT, humid, and physically demanding -- but also very rewarding -- work.

We especially need people who can cut hair or polish fingernails. For more information, write to

We provide up to six volunteers at each of two after-school sites on Mondays-Wednesdays during the school year. Sandy Acres usually is open from 2:30-6 p.m., while Forest Lakes Park usually is open from 3:30-6 p.m. Both locations are open from 12:15-4 p.m. on early-release days.

We also help with the 6-week summer program at Forest Lakes Park from 9-1, Monday-Wednesday. The 2021 program runs from June 7-July 13.

Volunteers are asked to help once a week, if possible, and must be certified by the state to work with children (fingerprinting, background check) and complete an application.

We need volunteers to help with a variety of fundraisers and events we already have set up. However, we encourage you to come up with your own fundraisers, as well. We just ask that you let us know of your plans so we don't have conflicting events or go after the same donors. Thanks.

See our "Projects" page for a list of major recurring fundraisers. We also need folks to help with newly identified projects, such as the Summer Activity Kits.

If you want to join our list of volunteers, please contact us at

Friends of SoZo Kids holds four General Meetings open to all Villagers. In 2021, we are meeting in the La Hacienda Room at Rohan Rec Center. Mark your calendars, plan to attend, and bring a friend!

  • January 18

  • April 12

  • June 14

  • October 11

Pastor Dave will join us at each of these gatherings.

In addition, we have a variety of Board committees for which we need volunteers willing to commit time to help plan and run our activities. Some of these committee assignments are open to NON-Villagers. For example, our Events Committee has representatives from Summer Glen in Ocala and from Del Webb Spruce Creek.
